The Kingdom of Serbia refers to a sovereign state that existed between 1882 and 1918, located in the Balkan Peninsula of southeastern Europe. It emerged following the reorganization and unification efforts of the principalities of Serbia and Montenegro in 1878. The Kingdom of Serbia was under the rule of the Obrenović dynasty, which was established in 1817.
Geographically, the Kingdom of Serbia encompassed a significant portion of the present-day territory of Serbia, along with parts of neighboring countries such as Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Macedonia. Throughout its existence, the Kingdom of Serbia experienced territorial expansions and contractions due to various conflicts and political negotiations in the region.
During this period, the Kingdom of Serbia underwent significant modernization, both politically and economically. It was characterized by the establishment of a constitutional monarchy, the implementation of democratic institutions, and the development of industry and infrastructure.
