Great Salt Lake is a large, saltwater lake located in the northern part of the U.S. state of Utah. It is the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere and one of the most salient bodies of inland water globally.
The Great Salt Lake formed as a result of a combination of geological and climatic factors. It is situated in a basin known as the Great Salt Lake Desert, and it has no outlet. As a consequence, the lake is highly saline, containing a concentration of salt and minerals far greater than that of seawater. It is also an important economic resource and water supply for the surrounding communities.
