Edwin Armstrong (1890-1954) was an American electrical engineer and inventor, renowned for his contributions to the field of radio and telecommunications. He is best known for developing and perfecting FM (Frequency Modulation) radio transmission.
Born in New York City, Armstrong attended Columbia University, where he began experimenting with radio technologies. In 1913, he devised a circuit that significantly improved the sensitivity and reliability of wireless telegraphy. This invention, known as the regenerative circuit, became a standard component in radio receivers, revolutionizing long-distance radio communication.
