Double flap amputation refers to a surgical procedure in which two flaps of tissue are created to remove a specific body part or limb. This technique is commonly employed in cases where a limb or other appendage has been extensively damaged and cannot be salvaged, typically due to trauma, infection, or a malignancy. The procedure involves the removal of the affected body part, such as a finger, toe, or limb, by creating two incision lines that delineate the flaps. These flaps are then folded over and sutured together to cover and protect the wound created by the amputation, promoting healing and minimizing the risk of complications, such as infection or dehiscence (wound reopening).
Double flap amputation is performed under general anesthesia to ensure the patient's comfort and to facilitate the surgical process.
